Q. What will the roles of the Interim President and Provost be?
A. The Interim President and Provost will work in partnership respecting the guidance and governance of the Board of Trustees. The Interim President will serve in the role of president providing leadership to the Seminary. The Provost will have the responsibility of the day-to-day internal operations of the Seminary.
Q. How long will they serve in this capacity?
A. This remains to be seen. The board of trustees has appointed a search advisory committee that has begun the process of searching for the next president of Denver Seminary.
Q. What does the Interim President hope to accomplish?
A. Pastor Gordon MacDonald says, "Forty-five years ago, my wife, Gail, and I came to Denver Seminary, and its professors did their best to make me into a churchman and a pastor. We've always been grateful. Now, many years later, we return with the hope that we can give something back. My mission? Assuring the continuity of the Seminary's noble commitment to feed the Christian movement with spiritually deep and thoughtful leaders."
Q. How do these two appointments impact the mission and vision of the Seminary?
A. The leadership of these two men will help further the vision and mission assuring that it will continue into the future. Pastor MacDonald has specifically expressed his desire to encourage the Seminary to clarify its vision; to inspire students, faculty, staff and the community to pursue an intimate relationship with God; and to anticipate with great expectation what God will do in and through Denver Seminary in the years to come.
Q. Where will the Interim President live? How often will he be on campus?
A. Pastor Gordon MacDonald and his wife, Gail, will keep their residence in New Hampshire, while also staying in a condominium near campus, where they plan to live approximately 10 days per month. Their goal is to spend as much time with students, faculty and staff as possible while they are in Colorado. They will continue to travel and speak around the world training and inspiring leaders and furthering the vision and mission of Denver Seminary.
Q. How can alumni and friends meet and get to know our Interim President?
A. A series of events for this purpose will be made available in the coming months. The first opportunity will be at Convocation on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at 11:00am in Denver Seminary's chapel. Alumni and friends are also invited to attend a pre-Convocation reception in the Vernon Grounds Reading Room. Other events will be posted as they are available.
Q. What is the status of the search for a president?
A. The search advisory committee has interviewed consultants and has identified a firm to assist in the search for a new president. Updates will be posted on Denver Seminary's web site as they are available.
