Searching New Testament Abstracts

New Testament Abstracts provide access to research specializing in the New Testament from 1988 to present

 

Searching with NTA

To Access New Testament Abstracts:

1.      Click on the Library link on the Seminary's homepage and then click on the Electronic Databases link:

2.      Click on the New Testament Abstracts link, which is found between NetFirst and OCLC Union Lists of Periodicals:

3.      The following search screen appears:

New Testament Abstracts allow the following:

a.      Up to three different individual criteria to be used at the same time

b.      The search results can be limited to reduce the number of items found in the search results

 

To Search the New Testament Abstracts

The New Testament Abstracts can be used to search for

a.      Individual criterion, such as searching for a specific subject, author, or scripture reference

b.      Multiple criteria, such as searching for an author and title

This example will focus on a subject search.

 

1.      Enter the subject in the first search criteria box:

2.      To select a field to be searched: (This is OPTIONAL. If your search fails after selecting a field, try it without selecting one)

3.      Click on the search button to the right of the criteria: NTA21

 

4.      The search results will then display:

This list of items displays the following information:

a. The citation information for the publication

b. The type of item

c. An option to find out more information about the resource

 

5. Clicking on the publication link will bring up the abstract of the publication.

 

Using New Testament Abstracts Results

New Testament Abstracts search results can be emailed and/or printed out. However, only the individual search item can be printed or emailed.

Emailing search results

Results can be emailed by:

1.      Clicking on the desired individual publication:

2.      Select E-mail from the options at the top of the window:

3.      Enter your e-mail address:

4.      Enter the subject:

5.      Enter any comments, if desired.

 

6.      Select the format you wish to see by:

a.      Selecting the desired standard format form the following three options:

OR

 

b.      Select the desired Citation format:

7.      Click on the Send button at the bottom of the window to email it: NTA13
 
 

Printing Search Results 

1.      Select the desired individual publication:

2.      Select the Print option formt he top of the screen

3.      The following Print Window opens:

4.      Selecting the desired standard format form the following three options:

Limiting Searches

New Testament Abstracts searches can be limited in the following ways:

  • Full Text
  • Publication
  • Year
  • Publication Type

These examples will focus on using the Full Text and Publication Types for limiting searches.

Limiting searches to Full Text documents

To limit the search to Full Text documents:

1.      Click in the box for the Linked Full Text option:

To limit the search to Types of Publications:

 

1.      Select the type of publication from the list:
